Moved To Texas.
Andrew was born in 1788 in SC. He moved with his family to Adair Co, Kyprior to 1811. He marr ied Mary Richards, in Adair Co in 1811. They hadsix known children; Mary died in Maury Co an d is buried in the MorrowFamily Cemetery near Mt Pleasant, Tn.
After Mary's death, Andrew married a widow, Mrs Rachel McIntosh, who had2 sons of her own, Jo hn and Elijah. They were married in Temos, Ky andsettled for a time in Henderson Co, Tenness ee.
According to Floyce Boles, who compiled the family history "Our Kin, TheHistory of the Gilbre ath Family", they left Tn in midsummer 1848. Itapprears that they may have started some two o r three years earlier.Several of the grandchildren were born in Texas as early as 1846. Theyt raveled with five other families by covered wagon, following the NatchezTrace as far as Natch ez, Ms. From there they took the Caddo Trace toShreveport, then on to Jefferson, Tx, a majo r entry point in the earlydays.
Andrew, Rachel, and his son, James, lived for about two years nearGilbreath Springs, southeas t of Lindale, Smith Co, Tx. In 1850, after thecensus, Andrew sold out to his son James and mo ved to Wood Co.
Andrew and Rachel moved in with his son Joel. They were living east ofwhat would become the R ock Hill Cemetery. They later would donate landfor the Cemetery. Andrew died in 1870. The hea dstone of Rachel's gravegives her date of death as 1869, and Boles' book gives 1869. However , Ifound both Andrew and Rachel listed on the 1870 Wood Co Census, so shemust have died somet ime later that year. Both are buried in the Rock HillCemetery.
