We love hearing of the research you have already done and there are a large group of Galbraiths, with spelling variations, in California. I would encourage you to join Clan Galbraith Society. We have a DNA Project and genealogists who are quite good at helping our members fill in the blanks. The Society will be going to Scotland in 2024 for a gathering of Galbraiths.

Comments: Hello! After doing a little research, it seems that Gilchrist Bretnach is my 22nd paternal Great-Grandfather. I found my way to this site through some googling and I am so excited! I may have to join the membership, and get the DNA test as well! I will very gladly provide proof of what I have discovered
Admin reply: Dear Haley, Thank you very much for signing our guestbook. If you are indeed the granddaughter of Gilcrest Bretnach we would definitely love the opportunity to review the documentation and encourage you to join our clan. We have over 150,000 documents in our library and more being added daily. The Galbraith Society exists to preserve the Galbraith history and to build on our DNA discoveries.

Comments: Hi, my great great grandfather is William James Galbraith born in 1827. He married Elizabeth Jane Smurford and had four children by the time they sailed to Australia on the Merchantman as a Pensioner Guard. Pretty sure his father was also William Galbraith ad his Mother's name was Mary (I think). Looking for more information regarding ancestors. Regards Robyn
Admin reply: Dear Robin, Thank you for reaching out to us. We have many Galbraiths in Australia. I would encourage you to join the society, We have genealogy experts that can help you with your questions. We also have a DNA project and an extensive library of information and documents, over 150,000 pieces of Galbraith information. Cost is extremely reasonable at $45.00 dollars for three years.
Sincerely, Paul Galbraith President of Clan Galbraith Society

Comments: My second great grandaunt Peggy Jane (Margaret or Margery) Moore (1820-1885) married Robert Galbraith (1801-1864) in St Johnston, Donegal in 1845. Their daughter Prudence Galbraith married James Boak, their son was Aaron Boak born Donegal died Canada. Aaron is my second cousin twice removed and I have DNA connections to his family. I have done some research on Galbraiths and would like to know more. If I join, is there a way to share what I know? This site looks really interesting to me! Marilyn Nevala Puyallup Washington
Admin reply: Dear Marilyn, It is a pleasure to hear from you. Yes there is definitely a way for you to share your information. The society exists to preserve the history of all Galbraiths who become members. We have an extensive library of documents on our membership and also historical documents of births, marriages, deaths, military records, etc. from all over the world, especially Ireland and Scotland. We also offer a DNA project. Through this project we can group members into one of 13 possible Galbraith lines.
Comments: My grandfather was William Galbraith, an engineer, who came to Canada at the age of 22. He was born in Scotland on July 6, 1888 but I don’t know where. He married my grandmother Edith Liddell (? Year) and they had a daughter, my mother, Elizabeth Roberta, on Jan.15, 1916. Sadly, he died two years later of the Spanish Flu and I was never able to know him. Now that I am retired, I am interested in learning more about the Scottish side of my family because it was never talked about when I was young and my mother died in 2912 at the age of 96. I hope to make a trip to Scotland with some or all of my three daughters when it is safe to travel again.3
Admin reply: Dear Deane Cornell, It was good to hear from you. It is exciting to know you have a direct link to Scotland. I would encourage you to join our Society. I believe we can help you with your search for answers. I have a friend who lives in Toronto who might be able to help as well. Stay in otuch and be safe!
Comments: Hello, my name is Courtney and I am originally from east Texas. I was raised by my great-grandmother who’s maiden name was Opal Galbreath. Her father was Admiral Dewey Galbreath.
I’ve done a little bit of digging and I was able to find pictures of Galbreath headstones in both Scotland and Wales and I know at one point the family was in Tennessee.
I really want to learn more and hopefully soon my husband and I will be traveling to Scotland to find out more about both of our families.
Admin reply: Dear Courtney, As it turns out I still live in Tennessee. We have several Galbraiths and Galbreaths in the state. I am glad you will be going to Scotland soon. Clan Galbraith will be going in May of 2022 for a gathering. We hold gatherings every two years and go to Scotland every ten. We would love to have you and your husband join us. All you have to do is join the club. You can find us at clangalbraith.org and on Facebook at Clan Galbraith.

Comments: My grandfather is Leroy Galbraith. I AM from the Galbraiths buried at Hershey Pennsylvania USA. Of the Rev. Bertram Galbraith
Admin reply: Dear Diana, First let me apologiz e for being so late to respond to your guestbook post. The Galbraiths buried at Hershey Pa. cemetery at Derry Church are very important to both the Bertram and Galbraith history. We have done several articals in the Red Tower regarding the church cemetery and the lineage of those lines. At the time of the last article there were about 60 CGS members descended from those Bertrams and Galbraiths, according to our DNA project. If you are not a member I would encourage you to become one and search out the history of the line and find family you may not know you have.
