Children were from one of the pension appllcations
I have seen a lot of info on your William and it all (most of it, anyhow) makes sense.
The pension applications by Wm and Phoebe, show he was born in 1757 in York Co., he died in Coles Co Illinois in 1839, her application lists the children. But in 1832 was in Scott County IN.
We know his parents were John and Mary Ann (from John's probate records, that include the son Andrew, in Westmoreland)
The family must have moved to Westmoreland in 1776 or went in two groups. Father John was fined in May 1777 in Mt. Pleasant for failure to appear, but this action was later deleted. We know Wm entered the war in 1776 from Westmoreland.
Jean says there are land records in Westmoreland for both father John and his brother Benj., but I have not looked at Westmoreland
Anyhow, back in York, There are a number of records for Benj., John (not after 1777 for these two) and Robert (d. 1810) in Mt Pleasant, all sons to John sr. (d. 1769) and Catherine.
I am guessing that John Sr of York, was son to that illusive John of Philadelphia

1787, since his eldest son was James?
And therefore, perhaps the Joseph of Mecklenburg d. 1795 should be this one??
